GPS tracking service helps Mexican hauler recover hijacked truck full of Colgate-Palmolive goods
GUADALAJARA, MEXICO - When thieves in Los Mochis, Mexico hijacked a delivery truck loaded with soap, toothpaste and other grocery items - they probably thought they'd make a clean getaway.
They just might have if it weren't for Guidepoint™, which helped Mexican authorities nab the dirty criminals in less than two hours. That's because the truck was outfitted with a Guidepoint tracking device that uses global positioning satellites (GPS), wireless technology, a 24/7/365 response center and the Internet.
When the truck failed to show up to its appointment, the hauler's dispatcher called Guidepoint's response center, which immediately went to work on recovering the vehicle. Guidepoint located the vehicle using its GPS tracking technology and provided Mexican authorities with the truck's exact location. Police went to the location and arrested six bandits as they were unloading the truck, which was stocked with 10 tons of Palmolive® soap, Colgate® toothpaste and other items. The driver of the hijacked truck was found safe and unharmed.
This is the second time in six weeks that Guidepoint has used its GPS technology to recover a hijacked delivery truck. In February, Guidepoint helped a logistics firm recover a stolen truck loaded with Nestle's foods. With Guidepoint's assistance, Mexican authorities were able to quickly locate the stolen vehicle and arrest the suspects.
