Guidepoint Executives Featured News

Rand Mueller
Chief executive officer, Co-founder, is a pioneer in the vehicle security and convenience industry and the visionary who conceived Guidepoint™. A college dropout, he quit engineering school at University of Michigan in 1967 to start the first of several automotive electronics businesses. Three decades later, he's still creating black boxes that make life safe, secure and convenient for drivers. Along the way, he founded and ran Code-Alarm, Inc., a public company that engineered some of the best-known vehicle security/convenience brands - including Code-Alarm® and Chapman® - and that built products for GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and just about every other automaker on the planet. In 1988, he developed Intercept, a vehicle tracking and recovery system based on cellular phones and LORAN, a radio-navigation system that preceded the global positioning satellite (GPS) system. "We were a decade early," Mueller says. In 1999, the convergence of the Web, wireless networks and mobile electronics got his entrepreneurial juices flowing again. He stepped aside as chief executive officer of Code-Alarm in 2000 to become the Company's "chief entrepreneurial officer" and spearhead the development of its telematics solution - which is sold today as Guidepoint™.

Tom Gafford
Chief Technology Officer, Co-founder, is the technology whiz behind Guidepoint™. An economics major at the University of Texas at Arlington, he's been involved in a number of successful telematics and dot-com enterprises. He's in charge of operations, systems engineering, service delivery, software development and emerging products. He's responsible for deploying and operating Guidepoint's IT infrastructure, including our Website, databases, computing, call center, internal systems design and support teams. Before starting Guidepoint, Tom was responsible for Emerging Businesses at @Road, Inc., a publicly traded company that focuses on fleet telematics. During his tenure at @Road, he visualized and led the initial development of "MyWeb2Go," a mobile Internet solution for companies that includes content aggregation, personal business manager, and sales productivity tools. He also developed strategic partnerships with world-leading fleet management companies and Fortune 1000 companies such as PHH, a unit of Cendant Corp.

Geoff Dixon
Vice president of sales and marketing, is in charge of selling and supporting Guidepoint's products in the aftermarket. A Detroit native who attended Albion College, he's been developing successful programs for automotive electronics for 30 years, including two decades of experience selling mobile electronics to car dealers and expediters and 15 years as VP for Sales & Marketing with Code Alarm, Inc. During that time, he's worked in retail, specialty distribution, rep firms and manufacturing - in short, he knows all sides of the business and understands what works and what's a waste of time. That said, he's always on the prowl for new ideas that will help Guidepoint dealers sell more product. He's also something of a road warrior, the prototype sales guy who knows that you have to hit the road and get face time with customers in order to truly train and support them.

Brian Edwards
Vice president of corporate development, handles Guidepoint's communications and growth initiatives. A journalism major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, his resume over the past 20 years includes experience as a working journalist, corporate executive, entrepreneur, business owner and investor-relations consultant to publicly traded and emerging-growth firms. He's written about business and technology for the Chicago Tribune since 1990, and his work has appeared in a diverse range of publications - from the Sunday New York Times to Pet Age Magazine. He's spent a lot of time working with lawyers, CPAs and finance professionals on mergers, acquisitions, capital formation, litigation and crisis management. He co-founded and helped build one of the Midwest's fastest-growing PR firms of the past half-decade, and has seeded several other businesses, including a Michigan-based contract foodservice company and a Texas-based contract furniture firm.
