Guidepoint™ is a stolen vehicle recovery system and driver safety & convenience service that integrates GPS, wireless networks, the Web and trained professionals at our 24/7/365 response centers. Unlike older RF technology, Guidepoint can be used to locate vehicles anywhere in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. We work with law enforcement authorities throughout the country to recover our customers vehicles that have been reported stolen - and have a 99% recovery rate, usually within two hours.
Recovery process:
When a customer's vehicle is stolen, we require them to obtain a police report and inform law enforcement that their vehicle is equipped with a GPS tracking system. Once the theft has been reported, we ask the customer to contact our 24/7/365 response center at
1-877-GPS-FIND and provide us with police contact information. We then contact the authorities and work with them to provide the vehicle's up-to-the-minute location, speed and direction.
Emergency dispatch:
Guidepoint customers can use the service to call for emergency help via cell phone or an emergency panic button. Upon customer request, we will dispatch police, fire, ambulance or other emergency help to the vehicle's current location.
Training:
Each Guidepoint Response Center representative undergoes extensive and ongoing training to ensure that any contact with law enforcement or emergency-rescue personnel is handled with professionalism and efficiency. We have developed "best practices" for working with law enforcement and emergency-rescue personnel based on research, experience and counsel from a variety of sources including industry peers, strategic partners, law enforcement authorities, emergency-rescue providers, and others.
Keeping current:
Guidepoint customers are required to contact us whenever their key contact information (e.g., address, phone, vehicle information) changes or if the vehicle is sold or totaled. Additionally, customers are required to contact the company once per year to verify contact information.
Debunking the GPS myth:
Industry competitors are fond of telling people that once a GPS-equipped car is underground or parked in a garage, the satellites can't track it anymore. That's misleading. Guidepoint can track a vehicle in a garage or under cover of concrete as long as there is cell phone coverage. We simply contact the Guidepoint unit and get the last-known GPS reading, then locate the vehicle. Guidepoint takes a GPS reading every second and stores the last few GPS readings in memory. Bottom line: We may not be able to tell you the exact space you are parked in, but we can tell you the address and location of the parking garage, as well as when you entered - and exited. In most recoveries, that is more than sufficient for the police. The U.S. military spends an estimated $200 million each year to put GPS on its vehicles. If it's good enough to track a tank, it should be good enough to track a Toyota.
