Q: How does my Guidepoint work?
A: A Guidepoint unit was hidden on your vehicle at the time of installation. The Guidepoint uses GPS satellites, wireless networks – including AT&T® and Telcel® – the the Web and 24/7 response centers in North America and Mexico to track your motorcycle anytime and anywhere.
Q: How do I know if my Guidepoint is working?
A: Your Guidepoint unit is tested and certified at the time of installation. You may wish to have an inspection of the unit by a certified Guidepoint dealer after two years, or you can use Guidepoint’s automated Monthly Maintenance Check that is included with all upgraded GPS Service Plans. Call 1-877-GPS-FIND for more details.
Q: How do I get service for my Guidepoint?
A: Call 1-877-GPS-FIND and one of the Guidepoint Response Center specialists will put you in touch with the authorized service center closest to you.
Q: Does my motorcycle need to be running for my Guidepoint to work?
A: No. The Guidepoint unit draws a very small amount of power from your battery. As with any motorcycle, if you are not planning to ride your bike for an extended period of time, it is recommended you charge your battery with a trickle charger or smart charger.
Q: What should I do if my motorcycle is involved in an accident?
A: If your motorcycle sustains severe damage as a result of an accident, please call us at 1-877-GPS-FIND to check the unit on the network and, if necessary, schedule an inspection to ensure your Guidepoint is working properly.
Q: If I sell my motorcycle, can I transfer my Guidepoint to my new vehicle?
A: Absolutely. Please call 1-877-GPS-FIND and we’ll tell you how to transfer the unit, including contacting your local service center and any transfer fees, which Guidepoint may waive. Plus, Guidepoint may very well enhance your motorcycle’s resale value.
Q: Can I watch the installation and see where the Guidepoint is installed?
A: Part of what makes motorcycle recovery products successful is the “stealth factor.” That’s why we hide the device on your bike and don’t provide stickers or other annoncements that your vehicle is protected with a stolen motorcycle recovery device. The reality is that it’s your bike, and you can watch the installation if you’d like; however, please be aware that any altering of the device may void your warranty or theft protection guarantee.
Q: Can I get an insurance discount if I have a Guidepoint?
A: Many insurance companies offer a discount of up to 20% to motorcycle owners who have a GPS-tracking device such as Guidepoint installed. Contact your agent and let them know the GPS device on your bike is a stolen motorcycle recovery device and there are no monthly or annual fees associated with theft recovery services. Guidepoint can provide an affidavit of services to you upon request. Just call 1-877-GPS-FIND for assistance.
Q: What is the anti-theft guarantee on Guidepoint’s stolen motorcycle recovery system?
A: If your motorcycle is reported stolen anywhere in the United States, Canada or Mexico and we can’t locate it, we’ll refund your money – the purchase price up to $1000.
Q: How can I get an owner’s manual, insurance discount certificate, GPS card?
A: Just call 1-877-GPS-FIND anytime day or night, and we’ll send you a copy via mail and/or email. You can also download many materials on our website.
Q: Can my Guidepoint be installed on an off-road motorcycle or ATV?
A: The unit that’s installed on your bike has been designed and tested for bikes that are primarily driven on highways and paved roads. We do not recommend this unit be transferred or installed on dirt bikes, ATVs or scooters due to power/battery requirements and riding conditions.
Q: Can I get a sticker that shows my vehicle is protected by Guidepoint?
A: One of the things that makes motorcycle recovery systems like Guidepoint effective is what we call the “stealth factor.” In short: thieves don’t even know they’re being tracked because the device is hidden. Since Guidepoint is not intended to prevent theft, we recommend that you pair your GPS with an anti-theft device such as an alarm, kill switch, bike lock. If you want a sticker, we recommend: Protected by Smith & Wesson.
