Vehicle Recovered in Under 1 Hour!
The morning of Friday, February 25, 2011 began as an ordinary morning for Christina M. She got out of bed and got herself ready to start her day, just as always. But at 7:30 am, when she stepped out the front door of her home in Brehnam, TX, she couldn't believe her own eyes as she discovered her 2005 Dodge Stratus was missing from her driveway!
Christina called the Brehnam Police to report the theft. Christina's Dodge was equipped with a Guidepoint SVL, so the very next call she made was to (877) GPS-FIND, the main line to the Guidepoint Systems Emergency Response Center.
Christina was instantly patched through to Tyronda Johnson, one of Guidepoint's veteran emergency response specialists and vehicle recovery experts. After getting all of Christina's details, Tyronda instantly linked in to Christina's Guidepoint unit and located its exact position within seconds.
Tyronda then contacted the Brehnam police department and was patched in to Officer Lance Weiss, whom she gave precise minute-by-minute updates of the vehicle's location. As the vehicle quickly sped down Highway 90, Officer Weiss communicated Tyronda's updates to police departments across four surrounding counties.
An officer in pursuit caught up to the speeding vehicle, ordering it to pull over. The driver was arrested on the spot for the theft and hauled off to jail.
Officer Lance was amazed at how quickly the entire event played out and expressed his thanks to Tyronda and Guidepoint's amazing technology for the quick recovery of Christina's vehicle.
But Officer Lance wasn't the only one who was thrilled; less than an hour after Christina called Guidepoint to report her vehicle stolen, she received a call back from Tyronda to let her know that her vehicle had been recovered undamaged and ready to be reclaimed!
G5 taken at gunpoint returned after going in circles
The New Year got off to a rough start for Shanika J. and her boyfriend. A carjacker jumped into the her car, which was left running outside a convenience store, and the thief pulled a gun when Shanika's boyfriend came out of the store to challenge him.
He parked right in front of the store and thought nothing of leaving Shanika’s 2009 Pontiac G5 running while he went in to the store to get what he needed. Little did he know that his vehicle was being targeted by a carjacker!
Luckily, the store clerk saw a strange man appear from behind a garbage can and get into the vehicle. That instant, the clerk asked the boyfriend if the man who got in the car was a friend of his. On hearing that, he darted out of the store to Shanika’s car, where an accomplice of the car thief pulled a gun on him! Shanika’s boyfriend instantly backed off, and the thief sped away.
With all the commotion and police report filings, it slipped Shanika’s mind that she had installed a Guidepoint Stolen Vehicle Locator (SVL) in her vehicle when she bought it. It wasn’t until about 10:00am that she remembered and informed the police.
Upon learning about the Guidepoint SVL, Sgt. James Taylor with the Memphis police called the Guidepoint Response Center and spoke to Barbara, a Response Center Specialist. Barbara immediately located the vehicle, which was disturbingly circling a local elementary school. As the police were ready to make their move, Barbara let them know that the car changed course and diverted to a nearby gas station.
The police raced to the station, where they confronted two men and arrested them with felony charges, right on the spot. Shanika got her car back without any damage, and vowed that she would never again forget about her Guidepoint SVL!

Guidepoint operator leads officers to stolen vehicle
Mondays are bad enough for most people. But on the afternoon of Monday, October 18, the day took a turn for the worse when Detroit-based Guidepoint member Gregory W. discovered his 2008 Chevrolet HHR had been stolen right from his driveway.
Gregory notified the police to report the theft the minute he noticed his vehicle was gone. The next call he made was to the Guidepoint Response center, where expert stolen-vehicle recovery specialist Barbara Luscomb answered. Activating communications with the HHR’s Guidepoint unit, Barbara immediately located Gregory’s vehicle, which was on the move in downtown Detroit.
She then contacted 911 to request dispatch to the vehicle. Once officers were in pursuit, the 911 operator connected them to Barbara, who directed the officers with a turn-by-turn report of the vehicle’s every move. After nearly 20 minutes of tracking the racing vehicle through the streets of Detroit, it came to a halt at downtown gas station.
Like a scene out of a Hollywood blockbuster, officers roared into the station. With weapons drawn, they surrounded the vehicle and its three suspects, and screamed at them to get on the ground. Officers arrested the three men on the spot.
Thanks to Gregory’s decision to install a Guidepoint unit in his HHR, quick action by the Guidepoint representative, Gregory’s vehicle was recovered and the thieves were arrested -- all in less than an hour after Gregory reported his vehicle missing.
When Barbara called Gregory to let him know his vehicle was recovered without damage, he said “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! God bless Guidepoint!” Barbara added, “Helping customers recover their vehicles is very rewarding, but this was a particularly exciting recovery. And it’s why I love my job!”

Van-nabbed Motorcycle Leads Police to 2 Stolen Vehicles
One Friday morning, motorcycle owner Wesley I. awoke to the sound of commotion and rumbling right outside his apartment window. He peeked out his window and was shocked to see several men carrying his motorcycle and loading it into the back of a van. Before Wesley could even react, the suspects jumped into the van and raced off.
Wesley called the Guidepoint Response Center at (877) GPS-FIND. Guidepoint Recovery Specialist Bryan Martinez answered Wesley’s call, and Wesley explained how, only moments earlier, his motorcycle had just been stolen right in front of his eyes.
Bryan quickly initiated communications with Wesley’s Guidepoint Xtreme unit that was hidden on his motorcycle. In just minutes, Bryan honed in on the motorcycle and was able to track it as it traveled inside the van, near Washington DC.
Soon, the van carrying the motorcycle came to a stop in a residential area. Bryan involved the police right away, who were dispatched to the residential neighborhood. There, as the police located the van and recovered Wesley’s motorcycle from within, they made a startling discovery - not only was Wesley’s motorcycle stolen, but so was the van that the thieves used to get away!
The police were able to apprehend the suspects and return Wesley’s motorcycle to him within hours. Later, Guidepoint learned that the authorities believe that the suspects are responsible for many stolen motorcycles throughout the Washington DC area.
Thanks to Wesley’s quick action and Guidepoint’s involvement, the police have put the suspects behind bars, preventing even more DC area residents from having their vehicles stolen.
Vehicle & Belongings--Go Missing After Interstate Move
Guidepoint member Jimmie P. had been planning to move out of Michigan for some time. When the opportunity presented itself, he decided to pack up everything he owned and make the exciting move next door to Indiana.
He finally made the big move on Saturday, August 21st. When he arrived to his new home in the evening, he placed his keys down and began unloading his vehicle. To make it easier for him to carry in all of his belongings, Jimmie left the front door of his new apartment wide open.
As it turns out, he got a welcome that he wasn’t expecting. While he was in the parking lot taking boxes out of his truck, someone snuck in to his apartment and swiped his keys! Then, when Jimmie reentered his apartment, the thief took off with his truck - and his belongings!
Frustrated and tired from the move, Jimmie decided to wait until Monday morning to deal with the theft. He called Guidepoint at 9:23 am on Monday to report the theft. By 10:28 am, the police had safely recovered the vehicle and towed it to the impound lot. Fortunately no damage was done.
After all the commotion, it turns out the thief was just interested in taking Jimmie’s truck for a joyride; surprisingly most of his belongings were still in the vehicle, safe and sound!
